The Places I Love
I like to travel the highways, get off the beaten trail, explore and discover new things. Some days I might go 60 miles and another day 700 miles. I’ve been traveling like this all my life. Although arriving at a destination is great, it’s the getting there I like. And, I always went alone – until…
In 2001 (much to my horror) I suggested that Karen travel with me. I had no sooner asked her, that I regretted it, but, it would be rude to retract the invite so I just had to live with it. Equally as horrifying – she accepted. I kept beating myself up – how could I be so stupid? My holiday was going to be horrible. I was sure my gypsy-type traveling would be ruined. I couldn’t imagine anyone else enjoying the type of traveling I did. But, I was in for a surprise!!! No two people have ever been more suited to travel together as me and my new-found road trip buddy. I knew it was going to be OK when, not even 4 hours on the road, we were scrapping original plans and changing our route.
The big cities – Vegas, New York, Los Angeles – don’t interest us much. It’s the ghost towns, far out remote places that we love. It’s the scenery. It’s discovering where gravel roads lead. It’s the feeling like we are the only people on earth with nothing but miles and miles of unbeaten trails surrounding us.
Our friends have nicknamed us “Thelma and Louise… without the gunfights”.
This site is about some of those fascinating, unique and beautiful places we have found. Enjoy
